Each year, Uppsala University offers scholarships to fee-paying overseas students who wish to enroll in one of the university’s international Bachelor’s or Master’s programs.
While some scholarships are open to both Master’s and Bachelor’s applicants, some are designed especially for students who are applying to one of Uppsala University’s Master’s programs.
All inhabitants of nations outside the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), or Switzerland are eligible for some scholarships, while others are only available to nationals of specific nations.

Scholarship Details:
The scholarships that are open for applications may change each year. Each year, a different set of nationalities are eligible for the King Carl Gustaf Scholarship. Be sure to read the details of each scholarship carefully and comprehend the requirements before submitting your application(s). If you meet the requirements for each scholarship, you may apply for more than one. In a single scholarship application form, you include all the scholarships you’re vying for.
Only on-campus programs with a primary focus on Uppsala University or on Gotland are eligible for the scholarships. You can only be awarded a scholarship for programmes that you apply for at universityadmissions.se.
The Joint Nordic Master’s Programme in Environmental Law, the Master’s Programme in Turkic Studies, the Master’s Programme in Religion in Peace and Conflict, the Master’s Programme in Implementation, Transformative Learning and Sustainability, and the Master’s Programme in Biology NABiS Nordic Master in Biodiversity and Systematics, however, are not eligible for scholarship awards.

Scholarship Requirements:
To be considered for the scholarship, you must:
- You must be a citizen of a country outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland.
- You must demonstrate academic talent and show interest in being in an educational environment.
- You can only be awarded an Uppsala University Global Scholarship for a Master’s programme at Uppsala University chosen as first priority (the programme which you have ranked the highest of the four programmes you can choose at University Admissions).
- You must have applied for the Master’s programme before the University Admissions deadline.
- You must meet the entry requirements for the Master’s programme you applied for. The application fee and your complete supporting documents must be received by University Admissions before the deadline.
Anders Wall’s Scholarship for Studies at Uppsala University
The complete cost of tuition for studies at Uppsala University will be covered by the scholarships. It relates to degree programs that are being offered during the current admissions cycle and that begin on August 28, 2023. Living expenses are not covered by the scholarships.

Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes
Eligibility criteria:
- You must be a citizen of Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, Tunisia and Uganda.
- You must demonstrate academic talent and show interest in being in an educational environment.
- You can only be awarded an Anders Wall Scholarship for a degree programme at Uppsala University chosen as first priority (the programme which you have ranked the highest of the programmes you can choose at University Admissions).
- You must have applied for the Bachelor’s or Master’s programme before the University Admissions deadline.
- You must meet the entry requirements for the programme you applied to. The application fee and your complete supporting documents must be received by University Admissions before the deadline.
The King Carl Gustaf Scholarship
Students who reside in hazardous and unsafe environments in places impacted by armed conflict or natural catastrophes are the target audience for the King Carl Gustaf Scholarship. The complete cost of tuition for studies at Uppsala University will be covered by the scholarships. It is for Master’s programs being offered during the current admissions round that begin on August 28, 2023. Living expenses are not covered by the scholarships.

Master’s programmes
Eligibility criteria:
- You must be a citizen of one of the following countries: Afghanistan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Iraq, Mali, Mexico, Nigeria, Somalia, Syria or Yemen.
- You must show why you are particularly vulnerable and therefore in need of the educational environment at Uppsala University, as well as that you have the academic talent required.
- You can only be awarded a King Carl Gustaf scholarship for a Master’s programme at Uppsala University chosen as first priority (the programme which you have ranked the highest of the four programmes you can choose at University Admissions).
- You must have applied for the Master’s programme before the University Admissions deadline.
- You must meet the entry requirements for the programme you applied to. The application fee and your complete supporting documents must be received by University Admissions before the deadline.
Method of Application
In order to be considered for a scholarship, you must first submit an application for a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme at Uppsala University at www.universityadmissions.se between 17 October 2022 and 16 January 2023. Uppsala University’s programme must be ranked as your first priority of choice. The scholarship application period starts after this step. Read more about how to rank your selections.
You must submit an online application form during the scholarship application period in order to be considered for one of our scholarships. During the scholarship application period, which runs from January 17 to February 1, 2023, the application form will be accessible on this page.
We will also review the supporting documents that you submit for your programme application at www.universityadmissions.se. Therefore, you do not need to submit any extra documents in your scholarship application form.
